Program Introduction
Government influences various facets of society, and understanding this interplay is crucial for shaping effective policies. Political scientists emphasize that government should be studied not in isolation but in relation to its societal impact. In response to the growing complexity of governance issues, there is an increasing need for skilled policy makers and managers who can navigate these challenges effectively. UMT is proud to offer a pioneering program designed to address these needs.
Starting in fall 2024, the BS Public Policy and Management program is an interdisciplinary degree that integrates principles from public policy, management, economics, and social sciences. The program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of how policies are formulated, implemented, and evaluated. Through a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience, students will develop the skills needed to analyze policy issues, manage public programs, and lead initiatives that drive societal progress. Special attention is given to the Pakistani context, examining both domestic and international factors that influence policy-making and management practices.
Graduates will be prepared to tackle contemporary challenges in public policy and management by employing a systematic approach to understanding policy frameworks, assessing program effectiveness, and driving meaningful reforms. They will be equipped to contribute to public and private sector organizations, non-profits, and international agencies, ensuring effective governance and management in a complex and evolving landscape.
