Clean Air Summit

Background

Lahore, at the heart of South Asia’s critically polluted Indo-Gangetic airshed, faces an escalating clean air crisis with severe public health and economic consequences. This inaugural summit responds to the ICIMOD Thimphu Outcome (2024)—a regional mandate for transboundary collaboration on air pollution. The Thimphu framework calls for unified airshed management, binding multi-stakeholder pledges, and green financing to tackle cross-border pollution from agriculture, industry, and transport.

Hosting Pakistan’s first Clean Air Summit, Lahore aims to translate Thimphu’s science-policy pillars into local action. The event will forge concrete commitments, advance real-time monitoring systems, and scale community-led solutions, positioning Punjab as a leader in South Asia’s fight for breathable cities.
